Choosing the right locker
A locker’s purpose is down its setting. For example – if you are looking to buy lockers for Year 1 pupils, standard-height lockers wouldn’t be suitable. The top compartment would be out of reach for children of this age group because of the unit's height. Therefore, it would narrow down your options to low-height Education Lockers.
Once you select a range, you will then need to calculate how many staff, pupils or visitors may need a storage compartment. If there are 100 people to consider, you can decide how many compartments you want per unit. For example – 100 x Single Door lockers, or 50 x 2 door lockers. This all depends on the space and, of course, the budget that you have.
Consider the space
Check the space you have available. The height, width, and depth you choose will depend on the space you have available. You will also want to ensure that there is enough space for each locker to open fully without obstruction. Once you’ve decided on the space, you will need to consider the size of the compartment needed to fit what you need inside. If you are kitting out a changing room, you may need to consider space for seating too. Our Changing Room Benches could be the solution.
Pick a colour scheme
Choose from multiple colour options with most of our range of lockers. If you can't see a colour you need we may be able to create a bespoke order for you. All we need is the RAL of the colour you’d like and we can liaise with our manufacturer about creating a custom order.
Choose a locking mechanism
We fit each locker with a cam lock as standard (includes 2 keys per lock). However, you may want a swivel latch lock / hasp staple locks so that the user can attach their padlock. Or a combination lock for each compartment. Other non-standard lock upgrades include RFID locks – hovering your card or matching transponder over the lock to unlock. More options include Digital Combination locks and Coin Retain locks.
Optional extras to consider
We offer a wide range of extras for lockers. These include sloping tops, locker stands, master keys and extra coat rails. Sloping tops can help reduce the build-up of litter and unwanted debris, as well as add a softer aesthetic to your lockers. Stands raise your lockers off the ground. This helps with easy access to the base of the locker, as well as being able to store or clean underneath.
Locker Standards
We produce all our Armour and TUFF branded steel lockers under the British Standard 4680 1996. This standard extends to the manufacture of both our metal storage units and cupboards. Our manufacturing plant certifies to ISO 9001. This is to ensure our customers can be completely confident when choosing to buy from us.
We also test our all-steel products to meet EN13501-1 Standard. This is to ensure that the products we supply do not encourage fire. An important consideration for schools, offices, hospitals, leisure facilities and areas open to the public. When specifying please ask for a copy of our certificate. This is essential for people buying for public areas.
