Vices are required to keep wood in place while its being worked. Most vices use a big screw to apply the clamping force and keeping it stable. There are two main categories of vices: front and end. End vices are usually mounted on the right side of the bench for right hand workers. They can typically hold work in two ways: between the jaws and along the top of the bench using movable €˜dogs€™ in place of the jaws. A front vice is most commonly mounted on the left front side of the bench and are mostly used for holding a board to be edged etc.
